A Beautiful 45 minutes from Denver you will find Dude’s Fishing hole located in Golden Gate Canyon park. The whole drive consists of amazing places to stop and see lakes, streams, and plenty of picnic tables to really make a day trip out of this adventure. There are currently 12 trails and over 35 miles to explore in this park. Trees that surround this area range from magnolias, aspens, willow, alder, and blue spruces making it seem a little colder than it actually is.
One of the easiest trails to get there and also is ADA compliant. The trail is very well-traveled and features signs showing the history of the mining population and some old structures. Most of the trail going to the fishing hole is downhill so be prepared to climb back up.
During early winter and the beginning of summer, you may find Aspen meadows campground closed but there is parking before the campground so that you can access the fishing hole.

It is best to arrive early as years have gone by this is starting to get to be a popular area but still a hidden gem that is not overcrowded. With multiple trailheads and ventures throughout Golden Canyon state park, it does not feel crowded and you often will go miles without seeing anyone but deer and moose.
