The trail is short and easy to follow, making it a great choice for families or those looking for a leisurely hike. The views from the top of the canyon are beautiful, and you may even see some wildlife along the way. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a golden eagle or two. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just starting out, Dudes Fishing Hole is sure to please.

Dude's Fishing Hole, Golden Gate Canyon Park

The Drive From Denver:

A Beautiful 45 minutes from Denver you will find Dude’s Fishing hole located in Golden Gate Canyon park. The whole drive consists of amazing places to stop and see lakes, streams, and plenty of picnic tables to really make a day trip out of this adventure. There are currently 12 trails and over 35 miles to explore in this park. Trees that surround this area range from magnolias, aspens, willow, alder, and blue spruces making it seem a little colder than it actually is. 

The Trail To Dudes fishing Hole:

One of the easiest trails to get there and also is ADA compliant. The trail is very well-traveled and features signs showing the history of the mining population and some old structures.  Most of the trail going to the fishing hole is downhill so be prepared to climb back up. 

During early winter and the beginning of summer, you may find Aspen meadows campground closed but there is parking before the campground so that you can access the fishing hole.

During summer months this as a amazing place to camp as well so if your looking for more than a hike this place has it all.

What To Expect:

The trail to Dude’s Fishing Hole is limited on parking access. However, there are many ways to access it from parking to hike other areas. It is best to arrive early as years have gone by this is starting to get to be a popular area but still a hidden gem that is not overcrowded. With multiple trailheads and ventures throughout Golden Canyon state park, it does not feel crowded and you often will go miles without seeing anyone but deer and moose.

Dudes Fishing Hole is a great place to hike and fish in Golden Canyon State Park. The scenery is beautiful, and the fishing is great. The hiking is easy to moderate, and there are plenty of places to fish along the way. The only downside is that it can be a bit crowded on weekends.

    Awesome Place! Easy trail to do in a hour or so.

    One of my favorite places and pretty easy to do, The trail is pretty steep going back up but taking some time helps if you need to.
